John Sheahan is an MLS Key Account Manager and has been with Homesnap since February 2018.
Tell us about your career — how did you get into it?
I previously worked at ListHub, where I was a member of their Publisher Relations team and eventually, I grew into a Compliance Administrator role. I was familiar with real estate tech and had a referral from a Homesnap employee to start in customer support.
I recently transferred to the Homesnap MLS Operations Team. My role is essentially the account manager for the most important accounts, our MLSs (Multiple Listing Services).
Over 200 MLSs have partnered with Homesnap so their agents and local consumers can access real-time MLS data right from their phones. Most of this position requires a lot of relationship-building and project management.
What have you gained from working at Homesnap?
Homesnap is officially my longest-lasting job! I have enjoyed creating my own role and projects to benefit the company. I love that you can create your own priorities.
What are three words that best describe Homesnap?
First, I would say innovative. It’s sometimes hard to keep track of all of the different initiatives we have going on — it’s amazing to think about how much we’ve enhanced our platform in the relatively short time since I’ve been here.
I would also describe Homesnap as open.
We embrace a culture of transparency; everyone is constantly brought up to speed on how things stand and where we’re going, which really makes you feel more trusted and valued as an employee.
The third word is productive. I’m inspired by my co-workers who dedicate their time and go above and beyond to do a great job!
Do you have an office nickname?
Yes! I’m the “office dad” in customer support. I think it primarily grew out of some good-natured banter around my office attire — I’ve also been known to drop a Dad-Joke now and again.
By the time I left customer support, I was one of the more senior customer support advisors, so I also did my best to act as a father figure to our newbies.
I dressed up as a dad on Halloween to live up to the nickname!
Do you have a favorite quote?
“A ship in harbor is safe, but that’s not what ships are built for” – John Augustus Shedd
Tell us three things most people don’t know about you.
- I lead the HomesnapFC soccer team
- I run one of Homesnap’s Fantasy Football leagues
- I love trivia. I go to bar trivia every Wednesday!
What do you like to do on your days off?
I enjoy playing and watching sports, hanging out with friends, and traveling to new places!
What is your favorite thing about Homesnap?
The people and the ability to make an impact.
In general terms, if you see an opportunity to improve what we’re doing, you can go out and make it happen. In other organizations, there’s often so much red-tape in place that branching out and taking initiative is discouraged. At Homesnap, our core values are centered on empowering the employee.
