Ask the MLS: Stan Collins of Columbus REALTORS

Welcome to another edition of “Ask the MLS.” Here, we talk to people running innovative MLSs around the country and ask them questions about their markets, their members and what keeps them up at night.

Today’s post features Stan Collins, CEO of Columbus and Central Ohio Regional Multiple Listing Service, Inc. (Columbus REALTORS). Columbus REALTORS serves more than 8,000 agents across central Ohio. Columbus REALTORS is also a member of the Broker Public Portal. Here’s what Stan had to say:

1. How would you describe the real estate market in Columbus today?

Our central Ohio real estate market is very strong, both in residential and commercial. Columbus has been listed in the top ten markets every month over the past year, and in March was rated the number-one hottest market nationwide.

2. How does Columbus differ as a market from the other major cities in Ohio?

Columbus is the fastest growing metropolitan area in the Midwest, much bolstered by unified economic development efforts led by Columbus 2020, our most predominant economic development organization. I am proud to say we have been a partner with Columbus 2020 since its inception in the 1980s.

3. Does the rise of iBuyers worry you as an MLS CEO?

iBuyers are a growing phenomenon, no doubt; however, I don’t personally believe the trend will replace the hands-on, face-to-face experience working with a Realtor provides the real estate buyer.

4. What do you think are the most effective marketing strategies for real estate agents today?

The most effective strategy for anyone in the business today is the one that allows the agent to respond quickly to the consumer’s need for personal service and timely information about what is currently available in the market.

5. What is your favorite US city to visit for a long weekend?

Neither my wife or I can help ourselves, we love visiting the Big Apple. So much to do, so much to see, so much of our world packed into one place to visit.
